Open Letter to President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Dear Mr. President,
My name is Faith P. Hill. As a concerned American citizen and attorney, I have observed a recent proclamation with growing concern. My legal background, while not directly related to the proclamation, has honed my ability to analyze and understand complex issues, prompting me to write to you about the proclamation proffered and signed on March 29, 2024, specifically “A Proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility 2024” that March 31, 2024, would be recognized and proclaimed as “Transgender Day of Visibility”. I write out of love for all people. Those whom we love we protect, and sometimes protection requires correction.
The growing nature of our leaders and society to strive for political correctness and attain inclusivity has united and divided us. Political correctness, regardless of its well-meaning intention to promote inclusivity and avoid offense, is inherently flawed and a slippery slope. Certainly, inclusivity always has the potential to offend an opposing position. We should stand on truth for proper administration of justice. As we reflect and consider public policies, we must remember that fundamental truths exist and there is a moral basis for law. The balance between free expression and the imperative to prevent discrimination is a delicate one, necessitating ongoing dialogue and mutual understanding.
Historically, the principles of natural law and biblical teachings have provided a moral compass for many, guiding societal norms and personal ethics. Natural law involves us having an innate knowledge of right and wrong. Natural law is discoverable through reason. Its roots can be traced back to Ancient Greek philosophy, particularly the works of Aristotle, who posited that there exists a natural order to the universe that rational beings can understand through logical deduction. Human laws are invalid if contrary to the law of nature. Law and morals are not the same; however, the law often reflects morality, especially in democratic societies where laws emerge from collective moral values.
Black’s Law Dictionary defines law as “a body of rules of action or conduct prescribed by controlling authority and having binding legal force. That which must be obeyed and followed by citizens, subject to sanctions or legal consequence, is a law.” Law is a rule of action that is prescribed by some superior and which the inferior is bound to obey. The law is objective; every breaker of the law breaks the rule of law and is subject to the punishments prescribed by law.
The wisdom of thinkers like C.S. Lewis, through works such as “Mere Christianity,” offers profound insights into the nature of moral law and human conduct. Similarly, the acts of civil disobedience throughout history remind us of the power of standing against unjust laws, guided by a higher moral conviction.
It is appalling to followers of Jesus Christ that Good Friday, the day that followers of Christ recognize the ultimate sacrifice of Christ dying for our sins, would be the day that such a proclamation was made and that the day devoted to the visibility of transgenders would be proclaimed and celebrated on Resurrection Sunday. Discretion may be used when making such proclamations, and it was foreseeable at the inception of the first proclamation in 2021 that it would overlap with such a sacred time in Christianity. Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday always fall within March and April; as such, it was always foreseeable that such a day could and would overlap with the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In light of these events, I propose the establishment of the Strategic Engagement for Religious Values and Equity (SERVE). This advisory council, if it had been in place since the inception of Transgender Day of Visibility in 2009 and its recognition by the presidency in 2021, would have ensured a different date was selected, one that never conflicts with such holy observances. Major oversights like this, which seemingly do not happen to other religious organizations in a nation founded on Christian principles, underline the necessity for SERVE’s formation. This council aims to safeguard our religious observances from being overshadowed by governmental policy announcements, ensuring respect and understanding are paramount in our nation’s decision-making processes.
It can neither be construed as ignorance nor unintentional that on such a holy day the attention would be directed away from Jesus Christ in favor of the transgender under the guise of inclusivity while underscoring the gender fluidity of Baphomet, a figure associated with transgenderism, despite our nation’s longstanding moral and ethical principles and Christian foundation. Moreover, it is disheartening that our President, a professed Roman Catholic, would agree with such blatant disregard for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Moral insanity is running rampant in the United States, and we must not allow our great nation to fall into the dangerous, evil pits without addressing these issues directly. The foundations of law in the United States of America undoubtedly have Judeo-Christian roots concerning moral and ethical frameworks. The Declaration of Independence is derivative of the belief that God created humans and endowed us with certain inalienable rights that the government should protect. The Declaration of Independence concludes with a firm reliance on divine Providence. It has clearly been understood from our country’s inception that God grants us our rights and has full jurisdiction over us.
Indeed, it is indisputable that our laws are derivative of English common law and Enlightenment principles; nevertheless, it is reasonable to conclude that even the three branches of government have conceptual or philosophical roots in Christianity and biblical principles. The fundamental Christian doctrine of the trinity—one God in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit—concept emphasizes unity in diversity, a balance of roles, and the coexistence of separate entities within a single overarching system. This structure mirrors the structure of the United States government.
“In God We Trust” and “God Bless America” are statements that we have made and continue to make, but the United States has turned its back on God. Choosing to give in to societal pressures instead of following God’s law is unacceptable, but it is what has happened throughout the United States. Morality is a construct that the United States is too politically correct to consider, without regard for the long-lasting effects on society, on us, on our children, and future generations. We have begun to accept everything so that we do not offend. Instead of treating moral insanity as the mental illness that it is, we have become accepting of it. We have acceptance instead of treatment for moral insanity because we, as a society, have lost our moral compass. Politicians and clergy have distorted love to mean acceptance and allowance of all instead of teaching against and prescribing correction for moral wrongdoing.
We must stand firm on the laws given by God. While proclamations are not law, they can provide a basis and argument for the legislative framework. Moral standards must be maintained; otherwise, civil disobedience should be considered. The enactment of laws allowing for and promoting the degradation of societal norms, natural law, and, most of all, God’s law cannot continue unchecked. We cannot merely follow our own desires and just do whatever we want to do. It is the duty of conscientious citizens to resist and not comply with the immorality that is now given to us, the American people, as natural despite our inherent knowing of the truth.
Moral insanity, a notion from the 19th century, is what I can best describe what is happening as the United States continues down the path of moral decay. Moral insanity describes individuals who exhibit morally deviant behavior without clear signs of intellectual impairment or delusions. In other words, the morally insane are perhaps intellectually dishonest as they engage in morally deviant behavior to do whatever they want based on how they feel. The morally insane ignore a fundamental truth that our nation’s founding fathers did not ignore, and that is that our creator has endowed us and because we have a creator, it is our creator who made us, who we are; we are the clay; we cannot instruct the potter on how to construct us.
We cannot reasonably ask for our nation to be blessed by God while we continuously disobey His law. Love is truth, honesty, service. Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save the world, and that’s what we must be reminded of on Resurrection Sunday and throughout the year. There are standards and requirements to be met. The Lord is not seeking unrequited love; He does not force us to accept Him; however, we are presented with the choice, and we should not be lukewarm. We must pick a side, and I choose to stand on the side of righteousness and follow God’s law. I pray for our leader and our country that the Lord will have mercy on us and that we will abstain from the condonation of abominable behavior for the sake of feelings and inclusivity.
The separation of church and state is longstanding in our nation’s history and has afforded us the ability to practice religious freedom. However, the separation of church and state does not dictate that we separate ourselves from natural law, morality, and consciousness. Separation of church and state does not dictate that we spit on the God that we call on whenever our nation is in need.
Our society is ever-evolving. We are striving to grow and change for the better, but we must recognize when the changes instituted have foreseeable damning consequences. We must stand up for what is correct. To not offend those who are transgendered, the followers of Christ have been offended. I, a follower of Jesus Christ, am offended. Support of government authority that abhors and ignores morality cannot be accepted and should not be supported.
I request that you remember the Lord Jesus Christ and the supreme laws of the land instituted by God. I call on the followers of Christ and the clergy who properly align with God’s law and recognize Jesus Christ to stand for righteousness. Protect and fight for future generations by reaching out to local and national congresspersons to ensure that the children are protected from the moral insanity that is propagated to the children in the form of “pride” and immoral behavior. The rainbow is a symbol of God’s covenant with mankind. The LGBTQ+ community’s agenda is in direct opposition to God’s word, and we must follow the true law. Let us love and spread peace and truth. We must purposely teach our children so that they are not confused and provide them with wholesomeness so that our society can see a better tomorrow.
Respectfully,
Faith P. Hill, Esq.
